This test of stamina and endurance was previously done in September 2000 for a similar charity fundraiser based in Melbourne. Their attempt ended in 7 days and 26 minutes from start to finish. We intend to better their attempt and to ensure our success, we have made it into a two-fold expedition.

The first part of our expedition has already taken place, with Robert Thomson doing a reconnaissance trip in April 2005. through the centre of our great land. We'll be crossing the Simpson Desert, making our way along the famous Gunbarrel Hwy before finding our way  to Steep Point on the West Coast of Australia. Once we get there, we'll turn around and come back again.

Robert's reconnaissance crossing has given us valuable information for the second stage of our expedition about distances, fuel availability after hours, making contacts in case of emergencies, road conditions, GPS reading and local knowledge.

All this is needed for the second stage, which will allow us to make the East-West return crossing of Australia within 6-8 days. Careful planning and a great team of blokes with big hearts will make this a reality.
